While purring is a typical sound made by all species of felids and is part of a cat’s way of communicating, these animals are not the only ones with the ability to purr. A cat’s purr can vary between cat, for instance one cat may purr loudly with a sharp tone, while another may have a quieter chirping type purr that sounds somewhat like a bird.
