While it may seem unthinkable and/or taboo in many countries, and while some individuals might debate on the ethics of such a topic, cats are in fact edible and historically have been eaten by humans in the West for centuries. They also remain a common food in parts of Asia and other countries. The consumption of cat meat is especially common in areas where other food sources are scarce and in times of war and/or poverty.
Some cultures even believe that eating cat meat will bring good luck or health and have longstanding methods of preparation. Others consider the consumption of cat meat to be disgusting and/or taboo for hygienic or humane reasons. In response, supporters of cat meat have often argued that there is no difference with eating the meat of different animals.
