Snakes are classified as carnivorous reptiles and are of the Serpentine suborder. Although some people mistake legless lizards for snakes, there are some physical characteristics which distinguish the two from each other; one of these characteristics is the lack of eyelids which legless lizards have, as well as the lack of external ears.
Another way in which some snakes differ from lizards is the fact that some of these reptiles have more joints in their skull, though this is not always the case. Even though many people believe that snakes are also considered lizards, scientifically speaking it simply isn’t true.
