The coyote has many natural enemies. Usually a coyote’s enemies may also depend on where the coyote lives, as that can determine what other species of animals would be nearby and could be a potential threat to the coyote. Just a few of this animal’s enemies include the following:
- Eagle
- Bear
- Mountain Lion
- Lynx
- Wolf
One of the coyote’s biggest enemies and threat, however, is humans, as they have been known to hunt and kill coyotes off for game, sport, fur, etc. Ironically enough, man has also killed off many of the coyote’s natural enemies to a certain degree.
what kind of animal is best to keep farm animals save from cyotys?
Llamas, believe it or not. I’ve heard coyotes making that creepy cry-sound they do, here in my Bay Area (CAL) neighborhood. I’m afraid of them getting at pet cats, and backyard chickens, but I live in Suburbia! No room for a llama!
I’m going to look into those Nighthawk things (that might be the wrong name for them) that supposedly frighten away raccoons (who will devastate a garden koi pond), owls (also kill cats), and even rats. You hang them at different levels: up high to mimic an owl, lower for emulating a wolf, I guess. I’m reading this article to try and find out the correct height to hang one to make coyotes think their predator is nearby. I guess I need to keep reading, because I still don’t know who goes after coyotes!
If you have the space and energy, llamas might be the thing for you (as long as you don’t have a Homeowners Assn to deal with!)
