Chipmunks are considered to be omnivores, which means that there diets include both plant and animal sources. A majority of a chipmunk’s diet will typically be plant-based, such as seeds, nuts and fruits. However, they will also eat worms, arthropods (such as centipedes), bird eggs, and insects. Some chipmunks have even been known to eat small frogs!

My Sister and I and our Husbands were at a Game Reserve when a chipmunk Attacked a pheasent’s chicks and killed them all and drug them under a tree trunk. If he wasnt going to eat them then why did he stock and kill them?

Just witnessed a chipmunk grab a baby finch, I believe it was a finch.
Never in all my time on this rock have I ever seen such a thing.
The little guys parents were trying to save it but the chipmunk was determined.
If I did not go see what was going on he may not have gotten away.
So I guess I spoiled a meal, or saved a life, all depends on your pint of view.

I just watched the same thing unfold with a baby Robin. I took some video. Unbelievable. This thing went through a considerably sized baby like corn on the cobb, right down to the bone and everything in between. My image of them is completely blown. LOL!!

We are currently overrun with” munks” ; I had to stop feeding the birds, as the furry critters were feasting to excess. They even ate my marigolds, which are supposed to be a repellent! Then, my husband saw a chipmunk gnawing on a mouse caught in a trap. We were slightly horrified, but when I went outside later to check, the mouse was entirely gone. So, I guess everything craves protein…

I love chippies. And also, yet - to my horror - i just witnessed a BIG A_S chippie kill at least two, possibly three baby wild bunnies ! The nest of white cotton tails (which apparently are never underground like other rabbits), had been found about a week ago by our sweet (but naturally, unfortunately - destructive to wild life) neighbor’s cat. I’d been keeping vigil to keep the cat away. This morning - when i heard the (now too familiar - bunny scream), I witnessed the chipmunk going for them, one after another ! There was no doubt about it. He drew blood from their necks. It was an unusually large chipmunk. What an unfortunate surprise.

Who knew! A few days ago I observed a chipmunk and an almost fully grown cardinal, ( avian variety) on our water feature. The chipmunk chased the bird away to the ground, scrambled down the rocks, and attacked the bird like a lioness and was immediately joined by another chipmunk. They dispatched the poor bird in seconds.

I was cleaning a fish and a chipmunk was talking to me going up and down the tree. I threw a fish liver by him and he took off with it and ate it by the next tree over. I have now seen everything.
