Dogs and cats cannot mate together and produce offspring as reproduction is species specific. However a dog and cat can mate with another breed of its own species. Dogs are members of the canine family and cats are domesticated felines. There are however quite a few similarities between a dog and cat’s reproductive processes.
For instance, both go into heat several times a year and both females may be impregnated during that time by more than one male. Both dogs and cats have a gestation period of about 66 days with litters ranging from 4 to 6 kittens or pups on average. Both animals have become domesticated and are popular pets, but no worries, the two can co-exist in your home without you having to worry about them getting together and making any little cogs or dats.

October 11, 2015 at 3:08 pmi dont know where you get the idea that dogs and cats can’t mate. I read this and got a cat and dog and they became very affectionate.
They did produce “dats” or “cogs” as you might say. Your reasoning is scientifically incorrect.

You will be the first with a dat’s or cog’s per say
That would be crazy assume and the fist of it spices
I have a 3 year old cat and a 9 month old American bully that have because very close and loving and affectionate towards one another
As in trusting each other
Not in turns of mating
My cat even puts her butt in his face
There way of communicating as they say ( vets that is)
My dog is very protective over her
Again no signs of inappropriate behavior of mating

May 21, 2016 at 12:46 pmHello, I can confirm that Tecey is correct. And that this article is not scientifically correct. Not only can you get them to mate, but they can reproduce. Admittedly, I am that scientific proof Tecey is looking for… I am, a Dat.
My mother was a Great Dane and my father was Garfield. It’s hard, my extended packs have never really approved, but I’ve learned to hold my ears up high. Sometimes I want to chase a squirrel, and then other days I just want to lurk under all the furniture plotting to kill the light on the wall. I lick myself alot. But overall, I get along with my life okay. meow, meow, bark, bark. meow-bark-meow. meow.
