There are in fact owls which are native to the Hawaiian Islands and are known as short-eared owls or Pueo as some of the people who live in this area call them. You will find that there is a lot of legend and folklore surrounding these creatures and they are a prominent part of Hawaiian mythology.
Owls that are native to Hawaii are on the endangered species list and it is believed that these animals first came to the Hawaiian Islands around 1,000 years ago. These particular owls can be seen during the day and night, which is contradictory to what most people believe about owls which are normally nocturnal creatures.
